It is a beautiful piece of equipment. I did not need it and rarely use it but I love how it looks and when I need to make a perfect circle there it is! I’ve had it for several years now and it’s just as beautiful as the day I got it.

An exquisitely constructed, elegant implement, with a pleasing and reassuring weight that only an item of quality could possess. Its smooth action looks and feels like magic. When in use, it’s impossible to think about anything else, so deeply is one drawn into the task by its form and function in the moment.
It is a very cool piece of equipment. With that said, I didn't purchase it for its accuracy, "as it is not", but for its craftsmanship & mechanics. It operates very smooth but a little on the stiff side to rotate. However better stiff than loose & not hold it's position. As for the accuracy. Even using a mechanical pencil & keeping it as vertical as possible, it is 1mm under the size selected on the dial. However, it is consistent with the 4 setting I tested it with. So it is quite simple to work with. If you need a 4cm circle, set the dial to 4.1cm. Or just add 1mm to the size you need. You can see the consistency on my photo. All in all it is a cool little instrument & glad I got it, mainly as a conversation piece & maybe even to make the odd circle.
It's a brilliant tool.. it offers precision and control in a way not possible to achieve with a regular compass tool.. you can set it to the millimetre, the weight makes it steady to use and the tactile sensation of using it is very satisfying.. i didn't review immediately after buying it because i wanted to use it for a while before deciding, even though i liked it right away.. i've had it for three months now and I still love it, nothing has come up that's made me like it less, in fact the more I use it, the more I appreciate it..
It's a high quality and complete tool.
When my calipers aren't near, I also use the IRIS to measure outside diameters and check for roundness. I can also use to rough check the inside diameter.
This thing is rad. I'm finding reasons to use it more and more in my work.

I love using the Iris to draw out my decision trees and my opportunity solution trees. The tactile feel of the device is adds to the creative process when I'm trying to think through a problem. Even though I'm not doing anything artistic or engineering related, it is still nice having a good set of tools when breaking down problems to solve.
