Love the Hovel pencil plane. I have had several pencil sharpeners in the house that have proved to be frustrating to one degree or another as they proceeded to repeatedly break the lead pencil point while sharpening. That was before I purchased the Hovel. Now I can get needle sharp pencil points each and every time with minimal effort. This is the best pencil sharpener I’ve ever owned.

HØVEL is absolutely one of the most wonderful items I have ever had in my hands. I bought it for my husband’s birthday and he said it was the most wonderful gift he ever received. Sharpener met all my expectations, and more. The sharpening process is meditative and engaging. The possibilities of shaping the tip of the pen are great. We just love it!
at first I regretted paying so much for this pencil plane as I found it difficult to master. But after practice I realised that I had been using too much effort !....all I needed to do was to gently stroke my pencil up and down it performed wonderfully and it was almost therapeutic to use! I store it on its wonderful wooden base inside the canvas bag. beautifully designed and a pleasure to handle. thankyou
For most of my life I have sharped pencils with a pocket knife. I really love this sharpener as it gives me more control over the finish of the pencil point, even chalk pencils for sewing which are notoriously difficult to sharpen and very wasteful. I urge you to give the black wing pencils a go as well!

The Hovel brass pencil sharpener is a work of art in its own right. It looks like a mini wood plane and that's exactly what it is, it took a while to perfect my pencil sharpening with this tool however once you get the knack it's easy and very relaxing to use. I bought it along with the leather sheath and walnut base. Such a cool peice of design too!
I have been using the Høvel pencil sharpener for a few months now and I LOVE IT! My pencils have never been so sharp. It took a few moments to get used to, but now I find it easy to use. If you’re sharpening a brand new pencil for the first time, I would recommend using a regular sharpener to begin with and then the Høvel to finish it off…to save time. :D
Works great for my flat pencils. The base fits in the Hovel box with the Hovel in place, making it easy to take out and about.
This is a very high-quality brass sharpener. It is precision-crafted, and if you read the enclosed instructions, it is easy to assemble. I look for any excuse to use it because it is a joy to use.
I have been wanting this product for quite a while. I finally ordered one as a Christmas treat and it’s been fun getting the hang of it. My pencils have never been so sharp.

Hovel is very beautiful and well made.
It’s it’s on my desk in its brass loveliness while resting in the cap of a mayonnaise jar. I did not order a base for it, as I didn’t realize how important it would be to its overall neatness and function. I have to shave my colored pencils into the mayonnaise jar cap making it a jarring Juxtaposition and mistake. The base should have come with the pencil sharpener plane. It’s as necessary to its function as to its overall functionality.
It is my (step)daughter who mentioned she wanted it whom I bought it for. I know she loves it. She is a clinical psychologist with a very busy clinic, but unwinds by drawing, now she is also part of a group that does printing, she is very talented.

So the HØVEL is a pencil saver! I use pastel pencils and they break very easily. With the HØVEL I have control to sharpen my pencil as little or as much as I want. It’s super satisfying to use. And if ever a pencil sharpener could be said to be a thing of beauty, this is it! The may not seem to be a necessity, but for me it 100% is. I bought my first one 2020 November and I just bought my second one so I could keep one at home and one at my studio. It’s a must for any pastel artist!

Super happy with the pencil plane! It works great on color erase pencils and colored pencils. My expensive colored pencils tend to break in conventional hand and electric sharpeners, and that has yet to happen with the plane.

This is however a beautiful piece of engineering and I am pleased to have one.
