The blades are very sharp from the beginning but on harder pencils, like PITT pastell from Faber Castell, they loose sharpness very quickly. Maybe there should be a second version with specially hardened blade to keep them sharp longer.

As expected.
I ordered the hovel pencil plane with the walnut base and a set of knifes as spear parts. Everything arrived in excellent condition and works great! For having excellent graphite point, you just need to ensure all time contact between the pencil and the plane keeping steady the angle you decided for creating the point finish and perform the pulls uniformly.

I use the pencil plane mainly for sharpening pastel pencils, as pencil sharpeners have a tendency to break the soft pastel. I have not to this date broken any “leads” and don’t even need to finish them off with a blade. So well done, a great product!

These blades work great for charcoal pencils, when they are newly replaced. After roughly a week of use, they become too dull to form a precision point. May I recommend a sharper and more durable tier of blade, as a choice? Also, has Makers Cabinet thought about fabricating an electric hovel sharpener?

My Makers Cabinet pencil sharpener with wooden holder is an example of buying the best. I like that it looks like I sharpened my supply of pencils (regular, colored, and watercolors) the "old fashioned" way - but like even better the precision with which each pencil is sharpened.
